Watch for 12 AM/PM
The tricky part: 12:00 AM = 00:00 (midnight), 12:00 PM = 12:00 (noon). See Common Mistakes below.
📐 The Conversion Rule
For PM times 1-11, add 12: 3 PM → 3+12 = 15:00. For AM times, keep the hour (with leading zero). 12 PM stays 12:00, 12 AM becomes 00:00.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
12 AM vs 12 PM confusion
12:00 AM is midnight (00:00 in 24-hour). 12:00 PM is noon (12:00 in 24-hour). The "12" hour is the tricky part of 12-hour time.
Using 0 AM for midnight
There is no "0 AM" in 12-hour time. Midnight is 12:00 AM, and the next minute is 12:01 AM. Hours run 12, 1, 2, ... 11 for each half of the day.
Including seconds
This tool converts hours and minutes only. Enter times like "3:30 PM", not "3:30:45 PM".
